Crown Lengthening

When decay or other issues occur below the gumline, it may be necessary to remove a small amount of bone or gum tissue for better access to the problem – this is crown lengthening. We may ask for this procedure to be completed before we restore your tooth.

Sometimes crown lengthening is done to improve a “gummy” smile because the teeth appear short. The teeth may actually be the proper length but excess gum tissue may be covering them.  This can also be called “gingival recontouring” (pictured to the left) and can most times be completed in our office with our biolase soft tissue laser.
