Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth that can be removed and put back into your mouth as you please. Depending on each individual patient case, you may receive full or partial dentures. Full dentures are used when all of the natural teeth are removed from the mouth and replaced with a full set of dentures. Partial dentures are used when you retain some of your natural teeth.
Your dentures may take some time to get used to. This is normal. Over time, your mouth becomes trained to eat and speak with your dentures.
Even though dentures are not real teeth, you should care for them like they are. You should brush them to remove plaque and food particles after meals and before bedtime. Never sleep in your dentures – your gums need a chance to recover after having them in place for a lengthy amount of time. After they have been removed you should place them directly in a safe place so that they are not misplaced or broken. Your dentures are delicate, so make sure you are careful when handling them so you don’t drop them. Do not try to adjust your dentures yourself. You should always seek assistance from your dentist if they feel uncomfortable or loose.
Our office offers several types of partial dentures, varying in price and material. We offer full dentures on a case to case basis and often refer immediate or complicated cases to Affordable Dentures (in Kinston or Wilmington) or Dentures in a Day (New Bern) for expertise and financial reasons.
